What is Moo Shu Chicken?

The classic ingredients of Moo Shu Chicken, a Chinese American cuisine, are stir-fried vegetables, scrambled eggs, and shredded chicken. After seasoning with soy sauce and hoisin sauce, the mixture is served with flour tortillas or Mandarin pancakes for dipping. Moo Shu Chicken frequently contains things like cabbage, wood ear, and mushrooms. Green onions may also be used as a garnish. The meal has a savoury and sweet taste thanks to the hoisin sauce. It is known for its flavourful blend.

Moo Shu meals are typically served with delicate, thin pancakes made with flour and water. Like a burrito or spring roll, these pancakes, which resemble Mandarin pancakes, are used for covering the filling. The end product is a tasty dish with a balance of flavours and textures that is both savoury and fulfilling.

Now, put on your cooking gear, roll up your sleeves, and let’s make some awesome Moo Shu Chicken!

Ingredients:

  1. 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  2. 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  3. 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  4. 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  5. 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  6. 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  7. 1 teaspoon sugar
  8. 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  9. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  10. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  11. 1 tablespoon ginger, finely grated
  12. 1 cup shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  13. 1 cup cabbage, thinly shredded
  14. 1 cup carrots, julienned
  15. 1 cup snow peas, diagonally sliced
  16. 4 green onions, finely sliced
  17. 1/2 cup bamboo shoots, thinly sliced
  18. 8 small flour tortillas or Chinese pancakes (for serving)

Let’s see how Moo Shu Chicken is cooked:

Get the marinade for the chicken ready:

Start by putting soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, sugar, and black pepper in a bowl to marinate the thinly sliced chicken. Give this flavorful mixture a good 15 to 20 minutes to blend so the chicken gets all of the flavour.

Warm Things Up:

Heat a sizable skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Pour in the vegetable oil and let it shimmer, then add the grated ginger and minced garlic. Stir-fry for around 30 seconds, allowing your kitchen to fill with the delicious scents.

Wok ‘n’ Roll:

Place the marinated chicken in the pan and heat, stirring constantly, until the chicken is cooked through and has a delicious golden brown colour. This ought to take five to seven minutes. When finished, move the chicken to a plate and set it aside.

Veggie Wonderland:

Add the shiitake mushrooms, green onions, cabbage, carrots, snow peas, and bamboo shoots to the same wok. Stir-fry this colourful mixture until the vegetables are soft but still have a nice crunch. Reaching that ideal balance of textures is the key!

Putting Everything Together:

Add the cooked chicken back to the wok and stir until it blends in perfectly with the vegetables. Let the flavours mingle for a few more minutes, so that the sauce coats every delicious bite.

Wrap and Roll:

Chinese pancakes or warm flour tortillas make a delicious way to wrap up the flavorful richness of Moo Shu Chicken. In the event that you choose to make tortillas, blend together all-purpose flour, water, and oil to form a smooth dough. Roll out the dough into thin rounds and cook on a heated griddle until done. An alternative method for making Chinese pancakes is to mix all-purpose flour with boiling water, roll out the dough, and cook it in a skillet with a little oil.

Regardless of your choice, spread a tortilla or pancake onto a platter, mound Moo Shu Chicken mixture in the middle, and then roll it up like a tiny edible gift. As you open and taste this mouthwatering treat, get ready for a taste explosion.

Garnish and Savour:

To add a pop of freshness, sprinkle some more sliced green onions on top. Now, savour a large, filling bite and give your delicious creation some appreciation.

Final Note:

That’s all! Add a whole lot of chicken and a whole lotta love. We hope you find this recipe easy to cook and super delicious when you taste it. Keep coming back for more!
